Lafite Rothschild 2025: 100 punten!
Er zijn grote Bordeaux-wijnen. En er is Château Lafite Rothschild. De jaargang 2025 laat opnieuw zien waarom Lafite al generaties lang wordt beschouwd als de maatstaf van elegantie en kwaliteit in Bordeaux. In een jaar waarin de weersomstandigheden zeer uitdagend waren, leverde het château een wijn af die de internationale wijnpers tijdens de En Primeur-campagne omschrijft als een van de meest harmonieuze en verfijnde van de hele jaargang.
Yves Beck deelde de maximale 100 punten uit, James Suckling oordeelde 99 tot 100 punten. Vinous' Neal Martin gaf 98 tot 100 punten en noemt de wijn “deliriously intoxicating”. Ook Decanter en Robert Parker behoren tot de grote liefhebbers van deze nieuwe release met torenhoge scores.
Wat vooral opvalt aan Lafite 2025 is de combinatie van intensiteit en subtiliteit. De wijn bezit de klassieke signatuur van het château met grafiet, cassis, ceder en viooltjes, maar toont zich tegelijkertijd opvallend energiek, puur en toegankelijk. Met slechts 12,5% alcohol, een uitzonderlijke balans en fluweelzachte tannines is 2025 eerder gebouwd op finesse dan op pure kracht. Een Lafite die volgens verschillende recensenten doet denken aan de grote klassieke jaargangen uit de jaren 80. Proefnotitie
Een uiterst verfijnde en gelaagde Lafite met aroma’s van cassis, braambes en donkere bessen, verfijnd aangevuld met grafiet, natte stenen, viooltjes, rozenblaadjes en cederhout. In de mond puur, energiek en perfect gedoseerd, met zijdezachte tannines, levendige fraîcheur en een indrukwekkende mineraliteit. De wijn combineert concentratie met een bijna gewichtloze elegantie en eindigt in een lange, zinderende finale vol spanning en finesse. Een klassieke Lafite met enorm bewaarpotentieel, maar tegelijk opvallend harmonieus en verleidelijk in zijn jeugd.

"The 2025 Lafite-Rothschild was cropped at 27 hl/ha between September 2 and 20. Eric Kohler mentioned that, unlike 2022, it underwent a longer maceration than usual because, after 24 days, he felt the wine was at ease with itself and there was no excess. That comes through completely on the deliriously intoxicating nose, replete with nuanced blackberry, bilberry and estuarine scents, all beautifully defined and seamlessly integrated with the 90% new oak that is made from Lafite’s own cooper. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled tannins. It is blessed with extraordinary harmony and it is so well balanced that you almost overlook the weight and minéralité towards the finish. Just a dab of graphite lingers on the aftertaste. This is a very succinct and refined Lafite-Rothschild that I suspect will drink earlier than the 2022, yet will age with equal grace in bottle. I admit that, upon returning to my car, it was only then that I realised what a brilliant wine the 2025 Lafite-Rothschild is destined to become."

"Intense aromas of sweet tobacco, dark cedar, cigar humidor, mushroom, roses, and wet earth follow through to a medium to full body with firm, velvety tannins and a driven, intense finish. Very structured with bones. Reminds me of Lafite from the 1980s. Unique for the vintage. 12.5% alcohol. A blend of 94% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot and 1% petit verdot."

"Vivid purple colour in the glass. Cool blue fruit, graphite and wet stones on the nose. Succulent and juicy, ripe and lifted, with supple tannins barely noticeable – the focus is on the purity and refinement of the fruit with bright acidity and an undercurrent of cooling, fresh minty freshness with graphite and wet stones. You really get the spice and fruitiness. A bit more lively, energetic and upfront than Lafite can sometimes be. There’s finesse for sure but there’s also confidence here. Mouthwatering with a ton of flavour and layering but at the end such a finessed and refined finish with a wet stone grip. So balanced and harmonious. An amazing feat this year. Eric Kohler, technical director of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), calls 2025 a: ‘Vintage of happiness – a symphony of all the perfect parameters' and likened the vintage to '2020 but perhaps more delicate and less tannic. More immediate than 2020'. A yield of 27hl/ha. 16% press wine."
Carruades de Lafite
Cabernet Sauvignon 53%, Merlot 34%, Cabernet Franc 9%

Een opvallend verfijnde en energieke Carruades met direct veel charme en precisie. In de neus aroma’s van cassis, zwarte bessen en donkere pruimen, aangevuld met cederhout, sigarenkistje, zoethout, bloemen en sinaasappelzeste. De smaak combineert sappig rood en zwart fruit met een levendige fraîcheur en een subtiele mineraliteit die de wijn veel spanning geeft. De tannines zijn zijdezacht en fijn, terwijl tonen van rode besjes, moerbei, tabak en een vleugje cacao voor extra diepgang zorgen. Elegant en harmonieus opgebouwd, met een lange, frisse finale die tegelijk kracht en finesse uitstraalt.

"Upfront and instantly so welcoming and friendly and fun, bright, lively, full on acidity kicks off the expression – so lifted with the focus on the pure fruit. Salty undercurrent that gives such an incredible contrast to the ripe strawberry fruit. But this is also lacking no richness – it’s got muscles, power, concentration and such capacity to age. Fabulous. 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend."

"The 2025 Carruades de Lafite has quite an understated bouquet that needs a little more encouragement than usual. Blackberry, pencil box and light estuarine scents gradually unfurl. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied, with sapid black fruit on the entry, gentle grip, wonderful balance and plenty of freshness and brightness on the finish. What a superb Carruades."

"A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 9% Cabernet France and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2025 Carruades de Lafite exhibits notes of sweet plums and berries mingled with notions of orange zest, cedar and cigar wrapper. Medium- to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a gently chalky finish, it checks in at 12.5% alcohol."
Over Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild behoort tot de meest iconische wijnhuizen ter wereld en werd in 1855 bekroond als Premier Grand Cru Classé: de beroemde “First of the First”. Het château ligt op een uitzonderlijk terroir van diepe grindbodems op kalksteen, vlak bij de Gironde, waar Cabernet Sauvignon tot een bijna ongeëvenaarde verfijning komt.
Sinds de komst van Baron James de Rothschild meer dan 150 jaar geleden wordt Lafite geleid door dezelfde familie, met een focus op precisie, terroir en langetermijnvisie. Vandaag de dag beschikt het domein over 112 hectare wijngaarden, verdeeld over de heuvels rond het château, het Carruades-plateau en enkele percelen in Saint-Estèphe.
De wijnen van Lafite maken jaar na jaar indruk door harmonie, balans en finesse. In de kelder wordt uiterst precies gewerkt, met moderne technieken en een opvoeding van 15 maanden op nieuw Frans eikenhout uit de eigen tonnerie van Domaines Barons de Rothschild. Ook duurzaamheid speelt een steeds grotere rol op het château. Lafite werkt actief aan biologische wijnbouw, biodiversiteit en onderzoek naar klimaatadaptatie via het zogeheten PHARE-project. Het domein maakt bovendien deel uit van de B Corp-community sinds 2023.
