Wat een mooie "tweede" wijn van Château Calon Ségur! Een andere stijl, maar zeer zeker interessant. Waar in de blend voor Château de Calon Ségur Cabernet Sauvignon het grootste grootste aandeel heeft, is dat in deze tweede wijn meestal Merlot. Een zwoele, zijdezachte structuur met sappige en rijpe tonen van bessen- en kersenfruit. Een kruidig randje voor een goede balans.

Wijnhuis "Calon Ségur"
Op het etiket van de eerste wijn, Calon Ségur, staat een groot hart dat verwijst naar de liefde van voormalig eigenaar Marquis de Ségur (tevens eigenaar van Lafite en Latour) naar zijn vrouw. Sinds de laatste eeuw is het Château in handen van de familie Gasqueton. De 74 ha wijngaarden liggen ten noorden van Saint-Estèphe en liggen op 5 meter diepe gravelbedden gemengd met zand, leisteen en klei. De wijnen zijn vlezig en geconcentreerd met veel diepte, fruit en een enorme lengte! Het terroir heeft zeer veel potentieel, echt het mooiste van Saint-Estèphe!

The 2025 Le Marquis de Calon-Ségur is a blend of 67% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Wafting from the glass with notes of blackberries, cassis and iris, it's medium- to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with supple tannins, lively acids and a penetrating finish.

The 2025 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is a powerful, dense wine. Dark and somber, with gorgeous depth and plush contours, the Marquis has a lot to offer. Blackberry, gravel, incense, licorice, dried herbs and mocha are all dialed up. All the richness of the year comes through loud and clear, but floral and citrus overtones on the finish provide a measure of balance.

A firmness and length to this red, with blackberries and spice such as cinnamon on the nose and palate. It's medium-bodied with silky tannins and a vivid finish. 67% merlot, 31% cabernet sauvignon and 2% cabernet franc.

Decanter
Blackcurrants and milk chocolate with fragranced violets and roses on the nose. Supple and softly plump in the mouth with generous tannins that fill the mouth with juicy red berry fruits before slate, graphite and wet stone minerality come in and straighten out the finish. A lovely combination of elements here – excellent acidity and a real sense of energy and focus with a precise liquorice and cola grip on the finish. Great stuff and this wine comes across very well this year. More Merlot than usual in the blend this year. 35% second wine.
