The 2020 Lafleur-Gazin is the first year produced under the ownership of J-P Mouiex, and a stricter selection of parcels was made in this vintage than hitherto. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries and berries mingled with notions of licorice, violets and new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, with sweet, powdery tannins that frame its generous core of fruit.

The 2020 Lafleur-Gazin is a bruiser. Inky blackberry fruit, charcoal, game, licorice, spice and leather open first, followed by a blast of acid and tannin that states the wine's assertive personality. There is good depth and substance, even if the tannins remain pretty burly.

Heady nose, perfumed black fruits and chocolate touches. Structured and poised, this is charming from the first sip, definitely rich and concentrated but remains fresh, firm and focused - linear even, with a tang to the ripe fruit. It loses a little density towards the finish, just settling but the mouthwatering acidity and freshness is carried from beginning to end really well. I love the crushed stone texture..
