The 2022 Nierstein Ölberg GG opens with a floral and finely flinty bouquet of bright and elegant Riesling aromas. On the palate, this is a very elegant and finessed, pure and crystalline Ölberg with fine tannins and good stringency. It has a very long and saline finish. Bottled in July 2023 and tasted a week later at the estate. 12.5% state alcohol.

The 2022 Riesling Niersteiner Ölberg Grosses Gewächs is from a special parcel of re-cultivated vines planted in 1991. The nose still carries some reduction, a flinty whiff. Underneath that is serene, tangerine and tart yellow peach fruit. Zestiness fills the mouth with ripe, aromatic fruit with overtones of grapefruit and white pepper spice. The finish is serene, tingling but also rounded and balanced.

A very powerful and structured wine in spite of the medium body. The aromatics are still pretty closed, however there's a yestiness here you often have in high-end dry riesling at this stage. More wild herbs than fruit, but also some Amalfi lemon. Very firm, long finish. Try to be patient, because this has excellent aging potential. From organically grown grapes. Best after 2024.
