Cos d’Estournel & Lagrange 2024
De jaargang 2024 van Cos d’Estournel is gereleased en hij is imposant. Minder dan 40% van de oogst werd zorgvuldig geselecteerd voor de grand vin en dat proef je. Net als het iconische château met zijn oosterse pagodes en mysterieuze Zanzibar-poort, is hun wijn uitgesproken in stijl, meeslepend en onweerstaanbaar mooi. Denk aan 'zwarte bessen, fluweelzachte tannines, een opvallend frisse structuur en subtiel houtgebruik. Vinous noemt het bouquet “atypically powerful” en spreekt van “much more fruit intensity than you would expect given the growing season.” Antonio Galloni van Vinous noemt het zonder aarzeling een van de grote wijnen van het jaar. Een krachtige klassieker in wording en schaars bovendien.
De 2024-release van Château Lagrange bewijst overtuigend waar dit huis voor staat: vakmanschap, precisie en een feilloos gevoel voor balans. In een uitdagend jaar koos het team niet voor concessies, maar voor controle. Elk perceel werd afzonderlijk gevinifieerd, zelfs op subperceelniveau, met een aanpak die nauwkeurig werd afgestemd op druivenras, leeftijd van de stokken en de rijpheid van het fruit. Slechts 55% van de oogst werd gebruikt voor de Grand Vin.
De blend is uitgesproken Cabernet-gedreven (84%) en dat proef je: cassis, zwarte kers, laurier en grafiet komen samen in een wijn die zowel kracht als finesse uitstraalt. De structuur is precies, de tannines zijdeachtig en de frisheid verrassend levendig. Gemaakt om prachtig te ouderen. Dit is Saint-Julien in volle glorie en dan nog iets extra’s.

"The 2024 Cos d'Estournel could very well be one of the wines of the vintage. Bright and vibrant in the glass, with tons of energy, the 2024 impresses with its vertical structure, depth and overall balance. Blue/purplish fruit, spice, new leather, lavender and mocha are beautifully delineated throughout. The 2024 is super-classic. The modest 12.8% alcohol is notable, especially because that also means there is less extraction of wood.
Cos is one of my early favorites in 2024. 2034 - 2054"
