De release van Château Cos d'Estournel 2025 behoort zonder twijfel tot de hoogtepunten van deze Bordeaux En Primeur-campagne. Het iconische château, met wijngaarden direct ten zuiden van Château Lafite Rothschild, laat opnieuw zien waarom het al jarenlang wordt beschouwd als een van de meest indrukwekkende en gewilde domeinen van de linkeroever.

In een warm en droog jaar wist Cos d’Estournel dankzij intensief werk op de beroemde grindbodems de frisheid perfect te bewaren. Het resultaat is een wijn met enorme diepte en concentratie, maar tegelijk ook opmerkelijke verfijning en energie. De 2025 combineert rijp fruit, een romige textuur en fluweelzachte tannines met een opvallende precisie en klassieke Saint-Estèphe-structuur.
Ook de tweede wijn van het chateau, evenals de witte wijnen, zijn dit jaar van uitzonderlijke klasse.

Een indrukwekkend gelaagde Cos d’Estournel met een enorme precisie en finesse. In de neus rijpe cassis, zwarte bessen en donker bosfruit, verfijnd aangevuld met grafiet, zoethout, viooltjes en subtiele exotische kruiden. De smaak is krachtig maar volledig in balans, met een romige textuur, fluweelzachte tannines en een opvallende fraîcheur die de wijn lengte en spanning geeft.

Even in the very early going, the 2025 is magical. Dark red/purplish fruit, spice, new leather, tobacco, lavender and mocha build effortlessly in the glass. More than anything else, I am blown away by the wine's magnificent balance. A masterpiece."

"Vivid pink colour in the glass. Plush, plump and chewy yet serious in a tight, cool blue fruit and graphite way. Lots of gravelly minerality keeps this quite focused and straight but with lovely fine layers of flavour and fruitiness. Classic in the sense of lower alcohol but still with ripe tannins – a nice combination. Still shy I’d say for Cos, definitely not the showy more exuberant style you can find. Refined but well built and definitely not overripe. 65% grand vin production."

Pagodes de Cos toont zich in 2025 bijzonder verleidelijk en energiek. Aroma’s van rijpe bramen, zwarte kersen en pruimen worden ondersteund door florale tonen, fijne kruiden en een subtiele toets van ceder en grafiet. In de mond combineert de wijn sappig fruit met een zijdezachte structuur en frisse spanning. Elegant en toegankelijk in zijn jeugd, maar met duidelijk dezelfde signatuur van precisie en balans als de Grand Vin.

"Supple and plump, softly chewy and bright with crisp tannins, cooling acidity, ripe fleshy fruit but more blueberry than blackcurrant with a lick of crushed stones on the finish. Really well constructed, not showy at all, but feels confident. A serious wine but with a soft side. A very good Pagodes. Lots to like here. I love the texture and length. 1% Cabernet Franc completes the blend."

"An incredible wine with electrifying acidity and great depth and concentration. It’s full-bodied and full of character, showing fresh and dried citrus, then honeysuckle and other white flowers. The palate takes off with bright, intense acidity. A pH of just over 3 gives a unique combination of tangy acidity and ripe fruit. Special white. 56% sauvignon blanc and 44% semillon. Best ever?"

"The 2025 Cos d'Estournel Blanc was picked between August 25 and September 3 and matured in just 6% new oak. It is very fragrant and pure on the nose, Anjou pear and wild peach, vanilla pod and light chamomile scents evolving with time in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is very well balanced, with a silver thread of acidity. Fine tension, quite persistent in the mouth, with a brisk and focused finish, this is a delicious white Cos d'Estournel that, again, will be difficult to resist once in bottle."

It has a very refined bouquet, very pure and seductive, scents of white flowers, yellow plum and just a hint of chamomile. Oddly, it is a little Chardonnay-like! The palate is well balanced, with a crisp, edgy entry. I appreciate the acidity here, bright and lively, with a tang of lemongrass complementing the peachy fruit on the finish. Will be difficult to resist once in bottle."
