Haut-Bailly 2025: een jaargang voor in de geschiedenisboeken
Bij Château Haut-Bailly weten ze dat een grote wijn nooit uit één element ontstaat, maar uit een bijzonder samenspel. Vanuit deze holistische benadering, waarin terroir, klimaat, vakmanschap en overtuiging één geheel vormen, ontstaat in 2025 een bijzonder mooi resultaat. En dat ervaar je overal: in de wijngaard, in de kelder en uiteindelijk in het glas.
Jane Anson kent Château Haut-Bailly 2025 tijdens de En Primeur-campagne 98-100 punten toe en plaatst de wijn "right up at the top of my expectations for how Haut-Bailly would perform in this often-conflicting vintage".
Adrian van Velsen van Vinum komt tot dezelfde score en noemt de wijn "among the best ever produced here and virtually the quintessence of classic style and new climatic conditions". James Suckling (98-99 punten) spreekt van "the finest silk" en van "the exceptional harmony of this young wine that makes you want to drink it".
Alexandre Ma (98-99) ziet in deze jaargang "Bordeaux's highest form of understated elegance, perhaps as far as it can go." Yves Beck (98-99 punten) sluit zijn proefnotitie af met de voorspelling dat deze wijn zeker een plek in de Hall of Fame van Haut-Bailly zal krijgen.
Ook Haut-Bailly II 2025 deelt volop in die glorie. James Suckling noemt de tweede wijn "very classy for a second wine", Yves Beck spreekt van een wijn vol "enthousiasme en energie", gedragen door fijne tannines en een prachtige frisheid. Ella Lister van Le Figaro beschrijft hem als "een absoluut meeslepende tweede wijn, omhullend als fijn kasjmier".

"Super slow and steady expansion as it goes through the palate, this absolutely makes you smile and is right up at the top of my expectations for how Haut-Bailly would perform in this often-conflicting vintage. Beautiful, crushed rose petals, wet stones, iris flowers, squid ink, shows finesse but also generosity, a wine with so many dimensions and layers to experience. Sit back, give it a good 6 to 8 years in bottle, then get ready to celebrate. 55% in first wine, 50% new oak, 3.6ph. harvest."

"Lovely floral aromatics with an abundance of rose petals. Supple and so smooth, silky tannins and really vibrant red cherry fruit. Quite a brilliant and energetic style. Plump but juicy with acidity that gives a clear backbone and drive. I love the slightly fuller expression, it’s not lacking in depth or attitude and fills the mouth with a fleshy grip yet still lifted, bright and so cool. Impressive. Haut Bailly has been one of the more delicate wines in recent vintages and this is a little more upfront, lively and characterful and I love it for that – while still keeping elegance and refinement. Ripe, punchy, bright, forward. A great success."

"A beautiful fruit to this delicate and refined wine. The tannins are perfectly integrated into the wine and almost give it a pinot texture. The finest silk. It’s medium-bodied with precise and focused fruit and an endless finish. The exceptional harmony of this young wine makes you want to drink it."

"A very fine-tannined young red with blackberries, black currants and crushed stone character. It is medium-bodied with a lovely finish. Very classy for a second wine. 50% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon, 6% petit verdot and 4% cabernet franc."

"Slightly dried herb aromatics, red berries – cranberry and raspberry leaf. Quite high toned, almost tart acidity gives a brisk and upfront profile. Sleek with a crushed stone, powdery texture and slightly tight, liquorice spiced edges to the tannins. Lots of juiciness, mouthwatering acidity and brightness overall. Once this settles this will be lovely but it’s a little tense at the moment but with power, concentration and a long length with dried mint and clove spice."

"De frisse, fruitige schittering van het bouquet laat meteen het enthousiasme en de energie zien die in deze wijn zitten! Wat een dynamiek in de neus, met tonen van bloemstelen, sinaasappelschil en specerijen. Ook zwarte bessen als braam en cassis zijn van de partij, net als nuances van munt en garrigue. De zilte toets in de aanzet zet de frisheid extra kracht bij. De wijn ontvouwt zich geleidelijk en wint aan breedte naarmate hij over het gehemelte trekt. Hij wordt gedragen door compacte, licht aangespannen tannines die een perfect omkaderde kracht geven en naadloos samengaan met de spanning van de zuurstructuur. Die laatste is scherp geslepen, precies en verkwikkend! Wat een prachtig begin. Haut-Bailly II zet zijn grote broer graag een beetje onder druk. 2028-2040.""
