Robert Parker
Deep garnet-purple in color and composed of 100% Merlot, the 2017 Latour à Pomerol leaps from the glass with expressive scents of baked plums, warm black cherries and boysenberries with wafts of fallen leaves, bouquet garni and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating, muscular black fruits with a firm backbone of rounded tannins and a long, minerally finish.

Touches of Pomerol liquorice and black chocolate, with depth to the fruit that is still austere with firm tannins but that has the promise of more to come. Black cherry and cassis fruits, not huge amounts of juice flowing through, but everything is well defined and carefully balanced, and has hints of flesh to come. Give it another two or three years. We are up on the plateau of Pomerol here, 35m, on soils that are relatively early ripening, and you can tell the advantage that it gives to the final wine.
