Krachtig en harmonieus, waarin de authentieke kenmerken van het terroir mooi tot uiting komen. Een rijkelijke, volle en vlezige wijn die zeker ook voldoende elegantie kent. In de smaak rijpe fruittonen van bosbessen, bramen en zwarte kers. In evenwicht door zijn florale tonen, subtiele hout en kruidige randje. Een wijn met spanning en stevige, doch aangename tannines.

Wijnhuis "Château Ormes de Pez"
Het domein Les Ormes de Pez is verspreid over 32ha rond het dorp Pez in Saint-Estèphe en dit in 2 grote percelen met een excellent terroir. Het dankt zijn naam aan een bos met iepen (ormes) dat rond het dorp bestond in de 18e eeuw. De wijngaarden van Les Ormes de Pez zijn beplant met 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot en 10 % Cabernet Franc. De wijngaard is vernieuwd door het dusdanig aan- en verplanten van wijnstokken dat er toch een gemiddelde leeftijd van 25 jaar per wijnrank behouden bleef. Het rendement bedraagt 40hl/ha, wat elk jaar weer een weelderige, ronde wijn oplevert. Château Ormes de Pez is in handen van de familie Cazes, ook eigenaar van Château Lynch Bages.

Aromas of sweet cherries, berries and spices framed by creamy new oak, introduce the 2020 Ormes de Pez, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine that's polished and seamless, with a generous core of fruit and an extroverted, charming profile.

Vinous
The 2020 Ormes de Pez has a more open nose than its peers, leaning more toward red fruit as hints of potpourri and rosemary lend complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins. There's quite a lot of extraction noticeable in this Saint-Estèphe, as well as a grippy, saline finish. It will require cellaring for several years before it entertains drinkability. Decanter
Blueberry, raspberry and cassis, there is concentration but also juice. Merlot-dominant (following a restructuring of the vineyard to better align grapes with terroir) with bite and freshness. A lovely smoky edge here, this is another successful vintage for Ormes de Pez. 4% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 3.69ph. 45% new oak. A yield of 42hl/ha which was not as low here as at Lynch Bages because of more clay in the soils, and because the Merlot was less impacted by the drought than the Cabernet Sauvignon.
