Château Trotanoy
Trotanoy komt van "trop ennoyé", te lastig. De bodem van deze beroemde wijngaard bestaat deels uit kiezels en deels klei, en dat maakt het moeilijk te bewerken. Toch is dit een van de beste Pomerols. Zeer complex en geconcentreerd met veel souplesse. In de neus zwarte kersen, rijpe pruimen, noten, licht animale tonen en mooi geïntegreerde houttonen.

Wijnhuis "Château Trotanoy"
Ook dit Chateau is in handen van de welbekende wijnfamilie Moueix. Deze familie bezit alle grote en beroemde chateaux in Pomerol, waaronder ook Petrus. De wijn heeft een stijl welke lijkt op Petrus vanwege de zelfde natuurlijke grondsoort. Château Trotanoy ligt in Pomerol, een kilometer ten westen van Petrus. Het wijnhuis heeft circa 12 hectare wijngaard en produceert jaarlijks 42.000 flessen. De wijnstokken op de wijngaard hebben een gemiddelde leeftijd van 35 jaar.
De bodem heeft een groter aandeel kiezel op het hoogste deel van de heuvel. Op het lager gelegen gedeelte neemt het aandeel klei toe. De ijzerhoudende ondergrond, de ‘crasse de fer’ is hier ook dominant. Het wijnhuis had eerst de naam "Trop anoi" en was eigendom van de familie Giraud. Deze naam komt van 'too annoying' wat zoveel wil zeggen als: 'te moeilijk om te bewerken". Deze familie veranderde de naam in "Trotanoy" en sinds 1953 is het wijnhuis in handen van Jean-Piere Moueix.

The most powerful wine in the Mouiex cellars this year is the 2025 Trotanoy. Offering up aromas of ripe black fruits, fruitcake and spices, framed by a deft touch of new oak, it's full-bodied, layered and muscular, with plenty of ripe tannin and sweet fruit but good underlying energy, too. This will require some patience.

The 2025 Trotanoy was picked September 1 to 19 and matured in 50% new oak. This is quite powerful on the nose, almost pastille-like purity with black cherries and cassis scents, although I would not say it belongs in the top drawer of aromatics from this estate. The palate is very smooth thanks to its cashmere tannins. Perfectly judged acidity, very poised, very harmonious and deep towards the finish, this Pomerol finishes on a real high and delivers exactly what you want from one of the best Pomerol estates. The longer you stay with it, the more it seduces.

Decanter
Clean and fresh aromatics – perfumed black fruit. Chewy and ripe, broad and filling but juicy and charming at the same time. It’s quite pent up, definitely coiled and knitted down but there’s such an appealing softness to this expression – definitely not overextacted but harnessing the ripeness of the fruit and delivering an intense, concentrated wine without the density or plushness of a hot vintage. Plums, blackcurrants and cherries, wet stones, oyster shell and a salty liquorice finish. Yum. Captivating.
