Een wijn met een mooie concentratie en spanning. Verse citrustonen, steenfruit en wat exotisch fruit worden aangevuld door kruidige en florale tonen. Een weelderig en krachtig smaakpallet, dat naast een romige structuur voldoende frisheid behoudt. Een mooie balans en gulle finale met minerale invloeden. Oogstjaar 2022 is het 40e oogstjaar onder Olivier Bernard, ter ere waarvan een speciaal etiket is ontworpen.

Wijnhuis "Domaine de Chevalier"
Dit prestigieuze Domaine geniet een groot aanzien in Bordeaux. Sinds 1983, toen de familie Bernard het Domaine kocht, is er gigantisch geïnvesteerd in zowel de wijngaarden als het Domaine. Dit is ook terug te proeven in de alsmaar stijgende kwaliteit van de wijn. Het Domaine ligt in het Léognan-gedeelte van de Graves. De opbrengst is minimaal en bedraagt jaarlijks circa 100.000 flessen rode wijn en 18.000 flessen witte wijn bestemd voor de wereldmarkt. Alle druiven worden handmatig geplukt en gesorteerd zodat alleen het mooiste fruit gebruikt wordt. Recentelijk is Olivier Bernard gestart met Clos des Lunes, waarmee hij een grootse droge witte wijn maakt in Sauternes.

The 2022 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc offers up aromas of pear, nectarine, crushed mint jasmine and lemon, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated palate with a mineral-driven profile. It's lively and bright, with a delicate, penetrating finish animated by racy acids. This blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, matured entirely in large wooden foudres and 500-liter barrels instead of the traditional barriques, is one of the finest white wines of the vintage, and one of the few that transcends its limitations.

The 2022 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is stunning. It exudes textural depth, intensity and pedigree from the very first taste. I imagine it will still be stellar in another few years' time. For now, it is a wine to think about cellaring. Time brings out dried lemon peel, sage, mint, chamomile, salt and crushed rock scents that lend both vibrancy and complexity. In most vintages, the Blanc is either incredibly steel or ample in feel. In 2022, it is both. Tasted four times. (95-97)

A deep and layered white with rich and intense structure. It’s full yet agile with so much energy and intensity. Cooked apple, lime zest and nougat with oyster and sea bed undertones. Fascinating already.

Decanter
Round, full, compelling, charming and confident, this has a width and density that is really well worked, calm, not super vibrant but really rich in terms of fruit expression with coolness, white stone fruit flavours and some subtle toasting. Feels structured and well worked, serious but not as tense as many with more fruit persistence and depth than a lot of the whites this year. Perhaps missing a touch of acidity but this is very good indeed and ends with a zestiness that is really appealing.
