Carolin en Hans Oliver Spanier leiden samen de prestigieuze wijndomeinen Kühling-Gillot en BattenfeldSpanier in de wijnregio Rheinhessen. Door loepzuivere wijnen te produceren met een mooie mineraliteit en een weelderig bouquet, zorgt het paar voor een heuse smaakrevolutie vanuit Duitsland. Het duo runt Kühling-Gillot, het familiedomein van Carolin Spanier, sinds 2006 samen. Deze krachtige samenwerking resulteert in een volledig biodynamische filosofie en werkwijze. Methoden zoals spontane vergisting en uitgebreide rijping op de gisten in traditionele houten vaten worden toegepast. De wijnranken van Kühling-Gillot zijn diepgeworteld in de rode leisteengronden van Rothenberg, Pettenthal en Hipping, Ölberg en Kreuz.

Robert Parker The straw-yellow colored 2021 Nierstein Pettenthal GG shows a deep, pure and intense nose of ripe and concentrated Riesling berries intertwined with herbal and yeasty notes of crushed stones. Lush, intense and savory on the palate, this is a full-bodied and generous, vital and elegant Pettenthal with a tight yet playful structure and a long, intense and complex finish. This is an impressive Riesling from this cru in which KG holds a homogeneous piece of 1.5 hectares in the Grosse Lage classified part. The finish is saline and stimulatingly piquant.

Decanter Carolin Kühling-Gillot's husband H. O. Spanier is responsible for the winemaking. He works with demi-pièce barrels (600 litres) and double-pièce barrels (1,200 litres). He does not provoke reduction, he only allows it to be well closed, so that it is lost with maturity. This is also the case with the Pettenthal, which hints at incense, followed by peach fruit with a hint of wormwood. The wine has an almost infinite finish.
