The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is also quite promising, exhibiting aromas of pear, buttered citrus fruit, honeycomb, toasted almonds and white flowers. Full-bodied, satiny and rich, with a fleshy core of fruit and good underlying freshness, I hope it can repeat this fine performance from bottle.

Such a classic Corton-Charlemagne! Stunningly concentrated and powerful, but also so graceful. Very racy at the long finish, which has so much mineral freshness. Takes your breath away! Drink or hold.

This elegant, balanced wine has a rewarding depth of fruit character on the initial attack that varies from ripe pear to peach, apricot, and quince, touched with a bit of well-integrated spice. Despite the warmth of the 2019 vintage, this is integrated and seamlessly-textured, with a silky, creamy texture that doesn’t become heavy. The grapes are a blend of Latour’s 9.6 hectares of Chardonnay on the Corton hill, mostly in Le Charlemagne and En Charlemagne, but also in Languettes and Renardes—tuly a ‘cuvée ronde’ that expresses all of the faces of Corton Charlemagne.
