Wijnhuis "Château Giscours"
Dat de geschiedenis van Château Giscours ver teruggaat, blijkt uit het feit dat het voor het eerst schriftelijk vermeld werd in 1330. In de eeuwen die volgden, wisselde het Château vaak van eigenaar. De grote bloeiperiode begon in 1845, toen het werd aangekocht door bankier Graaf de Pescatore, die Pierre Skawinski inhuurde om het landgoed te beheren. Dit bleek een gouden zet: Skawinski groeide uit tot een van de grootste landbouwers van Médoc in de 19e eeuw.
Skawinski bleef bij Château Giscours toen dit in handen kwam van de familie Cruse, die het in 1913 weer verkocht. Toen viel het verval in: toen het landgoed in 1954 werd gekocht door Nicolas Tari, waren de wijngaarden in zo'n slechte staat dat op minder dan 10 hectare druiven groeiden. Nicolas Tari, die ervaring opdeed in Algerije, zorgde ervoor dat het niveau weer omhoog ging. In 1995 nam Eric Albada Jelgersma het Château over. In dat jaar kwam de huidige managing director, Alexander van Beek, ook voor het eerst op het Château. Hij zou eigenlijk maar twee weken blijven tijdens de oogst, maar dit liep anders. Onder zijn leiding heeft het Château zeer veel vooruitgang geboekt. Sinds 2019 is Thomas Duclos consultant van Château Giscours.

Exhibiting aromas of sweet berries, petals and pencil shavings, the 2025 Haut-Médoc de Giscours is medium-bodied, supple and suave, with lively acids and a succulent, giving profile. It's a blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet France from vines just outside the Margaux appellation.
The 2025 Haut-Médoc Giscours is fabulous. Brisk and vibrant in the glass, the 2025 offers gorgeous up-front fruit and plenty of uplifting acidity to match. Dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, gravel, pomegranate and mocha open effortlessly in the glass. The blend is 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, with the Cabernets very much in evidence. Tasted two times.
Vibrant colour in the glass. Dried herbs and fragranced blackcurrants with vanilla and milk chocolate aromas. Tangy and lively, immediately upfront and bright with a crisp black berry element. Juicy, sweet and salty, exactly the style that modern Bordeaux wants to be. Approachable, generous, welcoming, fruity and not heavy at all but still with a fresh minty, clove and cinnamon spice from the Cabernets. Crisp and appealing, succulent and totally moreish. Lovely. Fine tannins, pure and silky with no dryness. Energetic and accessible – a wine you just want another glass of. 3.64pH.
